ICCR-Sponsored Saptak Folk Dance Troupe Brings Gujarat’s Vibrant Traditions to South Africa

The ICCR-sponsored Saptak Folk Dance Troupe, led by Shri Chetan Jethava, brought the vibrant colours, energy and traditions of Gujarat to audiences in Pietermaritzburg, Durban and Bloemfontein through captivating Raas and Garba performances.

The troupe also conducted an engaging Raas Garba workshop at the Consulate, introducing participants to the lively steps and rhythms of this traditional Gujarati folk dance form. As part of their visit, members of the troupe paid their respects at the historic Phoenix Settlement in Durban, reflecting on the enduring legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba Gandhi and the deep historical ties between India and South Africa.

Through performances, workshops and cultural engagements, the visit provided a vibrant platform for cultural exchange and offered audiences across South Africa an opportunity to experience and celebrate India’s rich folk heritage.
