INDIA @ 80 | CELEBRATING THE SPIRIT OF A NATION 

The Consulate General of India, Durban celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day with a vibrant programme at India House, bringing together distinguished dignitaries, members of the Indian community and friends of India.

The celebrations were graced by H.E. Thami Ntuli, Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, H.W. Cyril Xaba, Mayor of eThekwini, and Hon’ble Ela Gandhi, among other distinguished guests.

Consul General Shri Niteen Subhash Yeola hoisted the Tricolour and read out excerpts from the Hon’ble President’s Address to the Nation. The programme featured vibrant cultural performances celebrating India’s rich heritage, diversity and enduring spirit.

Certificates were presented to the winners of the Independence Day Special Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz (#BKJQuiz).

The exhibition ‘Threads of Bharat’ showcased India’s diverse textile heritage through the timeless elegance of sarees, highlighting the craftsmanship, traditions and stories woven into India’s cultural fabric.

Ayurveda and One District, One Product (ODOP) products were also showcased, highlighting India’s rich legacy of traditional knowledge, craftsmanship and local enterprise.

A memorable celebration of 80 years of India’s independence, heritage and diversity, and the enduring bonds of friendship between India and South Africa.
